The first one is about a cursed treasure and how the cursed pirates want to return all the pieces of Aztec gold to where the treasure is hidden to lift the curse. Elizabeth now has the last piece as she took it from will when they rescued him from the sea when they were kids.
The pirates attack the city and take Elizabeth (and the medallion). Will who is in love with Elizabeth seek help from Jack Sparrow and Jack realizing he is the only son of Bootstrap Bill Turner (one of the pirates who they believe is dead) agrees to help him out to find Elizabeth.
They reached the Island just as the pirates were trying to lift the curse by returning the last piece of medallion and some of Elizabeth’s Blood. And that’s when they realize that Elizabeth is not actually the child of Bootstrap Bill and therefore her blood can not be used to lift the curse.
Will and Elizabeth escape the island leaving jack Sparrow behind who tries to exchange the name of Bootstrap’s child for the Black Pearl (his old ship which is now under the command of captain Barbosa).
The negotiation leads nowhere and the pirates catch up with Wills’ ship and capture Will and leave Jack and Elizabeth on a small island to die. But they managed to escape with the help of the HMS and Elizabeth convinces them to go look for Will in exchange for accepting commodore Norringtons mirage proposal who is also in love with her.
With the help of Jack they find the island and fight the pirates. They manage to win the battle (after the curse was lifted) and retune to port royal where they try to hang Jack Sparrow for piracy and a bunch of other crimes but he manages to escape with the help of Will.
In the end Elizabeth tells commodore Norringtons that he is in love with Will and can not marry him. And Jack Sparrow sails away with the Black Pearl back.

In the second one Davy Jones (captain of the Flying Dutchman) wants Jack Sparrows’ soul, as apparently he has sold it to him in exchanged for him to recover the Black Pearl from the sea.
They go to Tia Dalma for advice and she tells them a story about Davy Jones and how he fell in love with a woman and he couldn’t stand the pain and misery. So he took his heart out and put it in a chest and hid it from the world. She also told them that whoever finds the heart can rule him and his ship.
While on search for the heart they cross path with Davy Jones, and Jack Sparrow tries to make a deal with him by offering him a hundred souls instead of his. He accepts and takes will turner as part of his debt and gives him 3 days to find 99 other souls.
Will meets his father on the Flying Dutchman and makes a promis to him that he will find and stab Davy Jones heart and rescue him from the ship. He steals the key to the chest containing the heart and escapes.
Another person who wants the heart of Davy Jones is commodore Norrington who has lost his honer after letting Jack escape and now is sailing as part of the Black Pearls crew with Jack and Elizabeth (who is tring to find Will).
They all reach the island at the same time and find the chest and then start a fight over it andinthe end Norrington manages to steal it from Jack who thinks he he hashidden it safely in his jar of dirth.
Davy Jones who is vey angry sets the kraken (a big sea beast) on the Black Pearl and Jack realizing his jar of dirth is empty tries to evacuate the Pearl. Elizabeth knowing the beast is after Jack and will not let them get away if he is with them tricks him and tie his hands to the pearl and tells the others he chose to stay to give them a chance.
The kraken takes the ship with it’s captain and the rest of the crew escape. They go back to Tia Dalma and give her the news. She tells them that Jack has been taken to Davy Jones locker and the only way to bring him back would be to go to the worlds end. And shetells them that to do that they need to get help from someone who knows those waters.
That’s when Captain Barbosa turns up and the movie ends.

The third one is really too complicated to explain. There’s a 100 different stories going on. But basically they rescued Jack from the locker and then they each fought for a different reason (sometimes with and sometimes against each other). In the end it’s hard to say who won, as no one completely got what they had hoped for.

My selection below includes movies as varied as pirate adventure and science fiction yet they all fall into the action adventure genre, and are in my opinion, some of the best movies ever made. Essential ingredients include a great story or at least one that can move along at a good pace. Add to this a hero we can identify with. If our hero is slightly disadvantaged in some way, by a character flaw or overwhelming odds, then even better.

For an action adventure movie to be truly memorable we have to share our hero’s experience as they face dangers and circumstances we never will (and probably wouldn’t want to). In reverse order here are my top ten…

10. The Long Kiss Goodnight

Samantha Caine, a happily married suburban Mom can’t remember anything before the birth of her daughter eight years ago. One night during a car accident she receives a blow to the head and her past slowly begins to come back to her. But it’s a race against time when a former enemy sees her on television and breaks out of jail to take revenge for stabbing him in the eye. This is a terrific action adventure movie, which never quite got the credit it deserved.

9. The Fugitive

Respected surgeon Dr. Richard Kimble is falsely accused and convicted of the brutal murder of his wife. A failed escape by other prisoners gives Kimble an opportunity to escape. Pursued by the relentless US Marshal, Samuel Gerard, Kimble’s only hope is to find those responsible for the murder of his wife. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones make this one fantastic manhunt movie.

8. Aliens

Discovered half a century later drifting through space in an escape shuttle – Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is the lone survivor of the mining ship Nostromo. With no witnesses and no one to believe her story she is stripped of her flight officer’s license. She finds out that since her ordeal a human colony has been founded on the planet were the alien was first encountered and that all contact has been lost. Recruited as advisor she joins a team of marines to return to the planet to face what turns into a living nightmare. Where Alien was scary because you hardly saw it, Aliens is scary because they are everywhere.

7. Star Wars: A New Hope

I saw Star Wars at the age of 10, after a long wait with my Mom outside the cinema. Even then I new I had seen something important – I just didn’t realize then that it was one of the greatest action and adventure movies of all time.

The Flash Gordon style text rolls back into the darkness of space, a gigantic Imperial space ship screeches past nearly filling the entire movie screen. Its prey… a hopelessly out-gunned spaceship – on board… Princess Leia Organa (a member of the Imperial Senate) and two droids: R2-D2 and C3PO. Inside the R2-D2 droid are copies of the plans to the Death Star, a weapon of unspeakable power. Between these three and a handful of others the fate of the free universe hangs.

6. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

This movie managed to restore the pirate adventure to main stream cinema long after it had gone out of vogue but only just! Imagine for a moment the same film without Johny Depp and Geoffrey Rush – not quite the same is it?

Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner are brought together in an unlikely partnership and must face a band of cursed pirates led by the treacherous Captain Barbossa. Both have different goals: – for Will it is to rescue the love of his life Elizabeth Swann and for Jack to recover the Black Pearl.

5. Raiders of the Lost Ark

After outrunning a massive boulder we see our hero surviving a snake pit, escaping elaborate booby traps, and taking on evil Nazis in pursuit of the Ark of the Covenant. Against all odds Indiana Jones will stop at nothing to attain the prize. With more action than you could crack a bullwhip at, this film, with the help of Harrison Ford, redefined what an action adventure movie could be.

4. Terminator II: Judgment Day

Arnold IS back! Not to terminate Sarah Connor but to protect her son. In the sequel to The Terminator, two robots from the future are sent back in time – one to kill John Connor (the future leader of the human resistance against the machines) the other to protect him. Our now “nice guy” Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) well and truly meets his match in the form of the T-1000, an advanced prototype liquid metal terminator which can imitate anything of similar size that it comes into physical contact with. Some shaky stop-frame animation in the first film is replaced with some cutting edge special effects in this one.

3. The Matrix

This is the movie that raised the bar in cinema in terms of fight scenes and special effects. The makers of The Matrix invented completely new ways to use the camera (cameras even) creating something called “bullet time” which revolutionized the action sequence.

Mild mannered programmer by day – hacker by night, Thomas Anderson has always questioned his reality. His search for a legendary hacker named Morpheus attracts sinister attention from “government” agents. Thomas Anderson is about to have his question answered and find out the true nature of The Matrix.

2. Blade

Born to a mother dying from a vampire attack, Blade is the “day walker” – man with all the strengths of a vampire but none of their weaknesses. Blades’ mission is to hunt down the vampire as revenge for the death of his mother. This movie is a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end with some of the most spectacular sword-fighting scenes to be seen on the big screen.

The difference between natural and cultured pearls focuses on whether the pearl is created spontaneously by nature or not. Pearls are formed inside the shell of certain mollusks. As a prevention of a potentially threatening irritant, the mollusk creates a pearl to seal off the irritation.

The mantle of the mollusk deposits layers of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the form of the minerals argentite or a mixture of argentite and calcite (both crystalline forms of calcium carbonate) held together by an organic horn-like compound. The combination of argentite is called nacre, which makes up mother-of-pearl. The commonly held belief that a grain of sand acts as the irritant is in fact rarely the case. Typical stimuli include organic material, parasites, or even damage that displaces mantle tissue to another part of the animal body. These small particles or organisms enter the animal when the shell valves are open for feeding or respiration. In cultured pearls, the irritant is typically a cut piece of the mantle epithelium, together with processed shell beads, the combination of which the animal accepts into its body.

Cultured pearls (nucleated and not nucleated or tissue nucleated cultured pearls) and imitation pearls can be distinguished from natural pearls by X-ray examination. Nucleated cultured pearls are often ‘preformed’ as they tend to follow the shape of the implanted shell bead nucleus. Once the preformed beads are inserted into the oyster, it secretes a few layers of nacre around the outside surface of the implant before it is removed after six months or more.

When a nucleated cultured pearl is lit, it reveals a different structure to that of a natural pearl. A cultured pearl shows a solid center with no concentric growth rings, whereas a natural pearl shows a series of concentric growth rings.

Natural pearls are nearly 100% calcium carbonate. It is thought that natural pearls form under a set of accidental conditions when a microscopic intruder or parasite enters a bivalve mollusk, and settles inside the shell. The mollusk, being irritated by the intruder, secretes the calcium carbonate to cover the irritant. This secretion process is repeated many times, thus producing a pearl. Natural pearls come in many shapes, with perfectly round ones being comparatively rare.

The rarity of the black cultured pearl is now a “comparative” issue. The black cultured pearl is rare when compared to Chinese freshwater cultured pearls, and Japanese and Chinese cultured pearls, and is more valuable than these pearls. However, it is more abundant than the South Sea pearl, which is more valuable than the black cultured pearl. This is simply because the black pearl oyster is far more abundant than the elusive, rare, and larger south sea pearl oyster, which cannot be found in lagoons, but which must be dived for in a rare number of deep ocean habitats or grown in hatcheries.

For those in search of Anne, the small town of Cavendish, where Montgomery grew up, is a must. There’s the cemetery where a path leads to the grave of Montgomery, who died at the age of 67 in 1942, a post office where Montgomery worked for a time that’s filled with displays, and even the opportunity to tour “Green Gables.”

The white farmhouse with the obligatory gables painted green was the home of a brother and sister who were cousins of Montgomery’s grandfather. They are believed to have inspired the characters Matthew and Marilla. Not far away is the site where Montgomery grew up with her grandparents. All that’s left of that home, though, is the foundation and a basement.

“Green Gables,” set in a beautiful woods, has two featured walks: a “lover’s lane” that meanders through a canopy of trees and over bubbling streams, and a “haunted woods” walk under tall trees that likely only seem menacing through the name’s suggestion.

Cavendish doubled in the book for Anne’s fictional hometown on Prince Edward Island of Avonlea.

Avonlea Village is a small park attraction in Cavendish, modeled on the fictional town. Admission allows visitors to pop into storefronts where they’ll find everything from a candy store to a photo exhibit about Montgomery.

And only a few miles away, one finds the stunning shoreline of Prince Island National Park.

Devoted Montgomery fans can travel 7 miles southwest of Cavendish to New London to tour the home Montgomery was born in 1874, which showcases many of her scrapbooks and her wedding dress.

And about 11 miles northwest from there in Park Corner is the homestead that once belonged to Montgomery’s aunt and uncle, now the Anne of Green Gables Museum at Silverbush, where you’ll also find the “Lake of Shining Waters” from the book. For a restaurant with a view, try Dayboat, 12 minutes from Cavendish, which sits on the Wheatley River. Just outside of Cavendish, The Pearl Cafe, offers sophisticated fare in a charming setting.

Tourist season runs through mid-October, but many attractions and restaurants close seasonally, said Carol Horne, manager of advertising and publicity for Tourism Prince Edward Island.

Even if you’re not a devotee of the “Green Gables” books, Prince Edward Island, which has deservedly earned the moniker “The Gentle Island,” is a nice place to slow down. Strolling along the beach, exploring scenic woods or taking an afternoon to wander through Charlottetown’s shops, visitors will soon find themselves in tune with the calm rhythms of this island in the Canadian Maritimes.

It’s a race against time to help the alien send a message home before being found by scientists and government agents.

After their grant runs out parapsychologists Dr. Venkman, Stantz and Spengler are fired from their easy jobs at Columbia University in New York City. They quickly set up business in an old fire station and begin investigating and ridding Manhattan of unwanted apparitions. Johnny Depp stars as Captain Jack Sparrow in this pirate adventure set in the 17th Century. Jack strikes up an unlikely alliance with Will Turner after Jack’s ship, The Black Pearl, is stolen by Captain Barbossa. Will Turner’s motivation comes in the form of Elizabeth Swann, a childhood friend, who has been kidnapped by Barbossa. What Will doesn’t know is that Captain Barbossa and his crew are cursed to live as the undead unless once-plundered treasure is returned to its “rightful” owner.

3. Toy Story

Woody (a pull string talking cowboy) is Andy’s favorite toy and spends a lot of his time reassuring the other toys that they won’t be replaced. Woody’s position as top toy is put in jeopardy with the arrival of space action figure Buzz Lightyear. Woody hatches a plan to get rid of Buzz, but it backfires and they both find themselves lost in the outside world with only each other for company. Their only chance of getting home is to join forces; this eventually leads to genuine friendship.

2. Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

I’ve lost count of the times I watched this film growing up – it’s an unbeatable classic. The story revolves around Charlie Bucket whose impoverished family barely makes ends meet. Charlie lives with his parents and both sets of grandparents and has heard many stories about the reclusive candy maker Willy Wonka. The eccentric Wonka holds a contest in which five Golden Tickets are hidden under the wrappers of his chocolate bars. The prize is a day-long tour of the Chocolate Factory.

The 2005 remake of this movie was quite weak, even the acting skills and charisma of Johnny Depp and modern special effects could not compete with the genius of Gene Wilder and the totally over-the-top production of the original.

NEW YORK – Since returning from Spain, where I spent two weeks with a couple of buddies, people constantly ask: “What did you do?”

We didn’t visit any museums or churches. We didn’t stroll around any parks or fountains. We didn’t write one postcard or buy one souvenir.

We ate.

We mastered the three-hour lunch, followed by the five-hour dinner. We toppled the world’s greatest tasting menus and astounded waiters as we devoured a dizzying number of dishes. We drove a couple thousand miles, dashing from city to city, trying to get there in time for our reservations. We tacked on about 25 pounds between the three of us.

We had no budgetary constraints, blowing more than $17,000 primarily on food (mostly good; occasionally awful) and wine, cava, Campari and that American stalwart, Jack Daniels.

We tapped our savings and wielded our credit cards without remorse. We’re gastro freaks. And we were completely out of control.

Our gluttonous tour was mapped around a trio of famous Michelin-starred restaurants named Arzak, Mugaritz and Can Fabes. When not bagging stars, we tackled tapas at a hodgepodge of other recommended restaurants. We always had a destination, but we didn’t always make it. Complications caused us to stumble occasionally.

The trip began with the three of us rendezvousing in Madrid. Including myself, Team Spain consisted of Robert Berry and Ricky King, two chefs in Washington, D.C. with scary appetites and a deep understanding of food.

Madrid was merely a culinary sideshow of Padron peppers and fried cod. The real action lay ahead in San Sebastian, which is nestled on the Atlantic Ocean and home to Juan Mari Arzak, who’s considered the father of modern Spanish cooking.

Arzak’s daughter, Elena, who will one day run the restaurant, greeted us warmly. She led us into the capacious kitchen, where we observed 30 cooks silently preparing food with precision and intensity.

One of the chefs, Igor Zalakain, guided us through the twisting hallways and into the wine cellar, which houses a staggering 100,000 bottles and more than 2,300 labels. He then took us to Arzak’s test laboratory, where 1,500 dried condiments – tapioca from Thailand, chili morita from Mexico – sit on the shelves. Here Igor experiments with recipes until they’re ready for the menu. Sometimes the recipes can take a day to perfect. Sometimes a year. Sometimes, said Igor, “never.”

This brief glimpse behind the scenes gave us a greater appreciation of what we were about to eat: Food rooted in the Basque tradition but with a modern flair.

The meal took hours. We devoured everything, experiencing repeated bursts of sharp, dazzling flavors. We discussed every dish, its ingredients and why it worked.

Juan Arzak, a jolly, vigorous man, came out to our table. He explained how they made the roasted lobster with freeze-dried olive oil and how they infused kefir with the essence of foie gras. In return, we praised the tuna belly and just about everything else. Then Rob and Ricky went to the car and retrieved two quarts of fresh South Carolina grits that they had brought as gifts.

They handed the Anson Mills grits to Juan. He was delighted.

After nights in San Sebastian and Pamplona (where we feasted on braised bull), we headed for lunch at Mugaritz, located in the hills of Basque country at the bottom of a looming mountain between San Sebastian and Irun. But without a detailed map, it was hard to find.

We arrived somewhat frazzled. On our table were two little envelopes. Inside, one card said you could “submit” for “150 minutes to feel, imagine, reminisce, discover” and “contemplate.” The other card said you could “rebel” and “feel embarrassed, flustered, fed up.”

We chose to submit. Wise decision.

Mugaritz, a two-star Michelin, was a completely different experience from Arzak. It’s known for cutting-edge, rigorous techniques that involve test tubes, tweezers and the gastrovac, a machine that extracts flavors from foods without breaking down enzymes.

But that gadget doesn’t work miracles, said wunderkind chef and owner Andoni Luis Aduriz.

“If there’s a bad cook, he’s a bad cook with a machine,” Aduriz, 36, said. “The machine doesn’t make the cook.”

Mugaritz awed us.

The degustation menu embraced wondrous textures and tastes. We consumed, among other things, a buttery Idiazabal cheese gnocchi in salted Iberian pork bouillon; tuna fillet covered in pearl tapioca and roasted in the bottom of a cider barrel with basil leaves; and beef roasted and perfumed with thyme and other flavors.

Five hours later, sipping Luis Felipe Brandy Gran Reserva on the verandah, I was sorry to leave. We had to dash across the Pyrenees to eat in Barcelona.

Exhausted, we didn’t make it that night. We ended up sleeping on the side of road.

We arose that morning, feet hanging out of the car windows and feeling beat up. We hadn’t a proper meal in more than 10 hours, a disturbing thought for this band of grizzled gourmands.

Finding decent grub wasn’t guaranteed that evening in Barcelona. But I had a wild card in my pocket thanks to Chef Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin in New York City. Before I departed, he had clued me into Paco Meralgo.

“To me today, this is the best food in Barcelona,” Ripert told me.

A favorite among Barcelona’s moneyed-set, Paco Meralgo is astonishingly good. The food was simple but pure. Not elegant like Arzak or Mugaritz but possessing a purity and reverence for the earthy ingredients on the plate.

We attacked, plowing through at least 18 dishes: razor clams, sea snails, chunks of black pepper fillet, grilled cockles, broiled Padron peppers with sea salt and the best tomato bread I have ever tasted.

Paco Meralgo doesn’t have a Michelin star but it’s worth a detour.

Three nights in Barcelona left us exhausted but we had to rally. We had a reservation at Can Fabes, the first haute cuisine in Spain to garner three Michelin stars.

“Cuisine with a Catalan flavor in a contemporary setting,” according to the restaurant.

Tucked away in the small town of Sant Celoni, north of Barcelona, chef Santi Santamaria awaited.

“Surprise us,” we told the maitre d’, choosing a tasting menu of Santi’s choice. We were eager to discover what was behind the wizard’s curtain.

Santi wowed us, displaying a deft touch in all of his dishes. We relished the tender pork with sea cucumber, calamari with cod fish, and a classic dish that has been on the menu for years, cepes and confit onion encased in shrimp carpaccio.

Everything was plated on gorgeous china. The servers moved like ghosts and were in perfect sync. The cheese boat, carried by two people, was formidable.

The sommelier at Can Fabes designed a fantastic wine pairing — the best of the trip — that included a a rare Chivite 125 Anniversary Chardonnay 2004 and Vina El Pison 2001. The chardonnay blew us away.

Santi, sick with a cold, came to the table. We thanked him.

He was humble.

“His team is better than him today,” the maitre d’ explained as a rotund Santi nodded.

Then Santi dropped the biggest bill of the trip on us. The day’s lunch had cost $1,500.

In the parking lot we held a staff meeting, discussing the damage. Whatever. We were off to Valencia.

After a savage skirmish with about 30,000 drunken people at the tomato festival in Bunol, we found ourselves scrambling. We were without reservations and one of the restaurants we intended to try was closed.

What to do? We drank Campari and plotted our next move at the hotel’s rooftop bar, taking a good two days to choose our next major dining destination.

Finally, we decided on La Sucursal, a one-star Michelin located in the Institut Valencia d’Art Modern that specializes in Mediterranean cuisine. This was the only time we stepped foot in a museum, and it was only to eat.

The evening was a little different from the others. We had female company. We had to behave. Earlier that day, I invited Judith Naylor, aka “Mum,” and her beautiful 22-year-old daughter, Lucy Naylor, whom we met at the hotel’s pool.

These Brits had no idea how we rolled.

As soon as the cava was corked, I handed one of the Mugaritz’s cards — the one that said we wanted to submit — to our server. She spotted the Mugaritz name, saying it out loud. She knew we were very serious.

Over the next four hours, the chef dished out 10 courses. Many of them sparkled with brilliant colors like the pumpkin with creamy foie gras, beans and corn.

“If I was a fairy, I would dance in it,” Lucy said.

But it was too much for our guests. They were unprepared for this epic dinner. Judith gasped after the seventh course. “Is there more?” she asked.

“Oh yeah,” Rob answered. “We’ve just finished the fish. We still have meats and desserts.”

Judith and Lucy, who was slumping behind a forest of wine glasses, bravely pushed forward.

We were amused. We were pros.

We walked out of the minimalist La Sucursal about 2 a.m. We had learned plenty about the fabled Michelin standards. We had just completed a Michelin trifecta, gorging our way through the guide’s tiered system.

The next day, we returned to Madrid, tired, ragged and very hungry. We couldn’t think straight. We needed to come off the mountain.

Rob, steering us to a sprawling plaza dotted with tourist traps, chose our last meal in Spain. A half chicken, french fries and desperately needed salad.

We said little. What more was there to say?

MUMBAI (AFP) – India's Reliance Entertainment is likely to bid for US film group Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), the Hollywood studio behind classics such as James Bond and the Pink Panther, a report said Friday.

As of today, the most expensive and biggest pearl ever found in the world is the Pearl of Lao Tzu. It weighs 6.6 Kilograms and has a diameter of ten inches. It was found in the Philippines in 1980, but was rumored to have originally been in possession of the last dynasties of China.
